Around 1,300 of the 4,610 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) appointed in Nagpur district initially refused to take up voter list revision work, prompting the election administration to issue show-cause notices warning of suspension and departmental inquiry.
Nagpur district has 46.41 lakh registered voters and is among the largest in the state. To handle the voter data revision exercise, 4,610 BLOs were appointed across the district. However, a large number of them were unwilling to take up the assignment at the outset. While some agreed in phases, many continue to refuse.
The election administration has issued show-cause notices to the non-compliant BLOs, warning that they could face suspension as well as departmental proceedings.
“The responsibilities assigned to BLOs have been communicated to them,” said Dr Rachna Indurkar, Election Deputy Collector, Nagpur.
