Over 60 teams—including 36 men’s and 24 women’s squads—will compete in the 65th Maharashtra State Inter-District Volleyball Championships, scheduled from April 9 to 12 at the floodlit courts of the Anand Nagar Sports Association ground.
The tournament is expected to see participation from more than 500 male and 400 female players, along with 40 referees and 22 match officials.
According to Sunil Hande, Executive Vice-President of Volleyball Association Nagpur, the championship will serve as selection trials for the national tournament, with several national and international-level players likely to take part. He also noted that the event is recognized by both the Volleyball Federation of India and the Indian Olympic Association.
Sourabh Rokade, Secretary of VAN, shared details of the prize structure. Winners in both men’s and women’s categories will receive ₹75,000 each, while runners-up will earn ₹50,000. Third-place teams will be awarded ₹25,000, along with individual prizes and trophies.
The tournament will be inaugurated on April 9 at 6:30 PM by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The event will also be attended by Mayor Nita Thakre and several dignitaries, including Vijay Dangre, Mohan Mate, Abhijeet Wanjari, Pravin Datke, Parinay Fuke, Divya Dhurde, Sanjay Naik, Anup Pote, and Nilesh Jagtap.
