In a major relief for farmers, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced that land measurement charges have been drastically reduced from nearly Rs12,000 to just Rs1,000. Speaking at Nagpur Airport on Thursday, he outlined a series of administrative reforms aimed at streamlining land records and addressing urban water issues.
Streamlining Land Records
To speed up the process, the government has approved the appointment of private surveyors through district collectors. These surveyors will be certified by government authorities, a step expected to cut processing time from 60 days to just 15 days over the next 18 months.
Bawankule stressed that completing sale deeds and mutation procedures immediately after land measurement is essential to avoid future legal disputes.
Crackdown on Water Theft
Addressing water supply concerns in Nagpur, the minister revealed that nearly 40% of water is lost due to leakage. He attributed the shortage largely to illegal pumps and excessive water extraction by commercial establishments, especially in areas like Sitabuldi and Mahal.
While notices have been issued to violators, he assured that a review meeting will be held to ensure that poor and middle-class residents are not unfairly affected.
Political and Social Initiatives
On tribal welfare, the government will review forest rights claims in Yavatmal to ensure that tribal farmers do not face losses.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is scheduled for April 12 to review the LPG supply chain at the district level.
Bawankule also expressed strong support for Sunetra Pawar in the Baramati by-election, stating that the entire Mahayuti alliance stands firmly behind her.
