In a major anti-narcotics crackdown, Nagpur Police, along with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), seized drugs worth approximately ?24 crore within just two days, creating a stir in the city.
According to sources, two separate operations were carried out by different agencies, leading to the recovery of large quantities of narcotic substances, including ganja and cocaine. In one of the major actions, a truck loaded with ganja was intercepted and seized by the NCB team. The drugs were being transported using concealed compartments to avoid detection.
Officials revealed that traffickers are increasingly adopting innovative methods to smuggle drugs. In some cases, narcotics like cocaine were packed into small capsules and hidden inside bottles or disguised as food items. In others, drugs were concealed in specially designed cavities within vehicles, under flooring, or mixed with legitimate goods such as vegetables.
Investigations have further indicated that Nagpur is emerging as a key transit hub for drug trafficking. Consignments arriving from other states are often routed through the city before being distributed elsewhere.
Police have also found that traffickers are using unsuspecting individuals, including students and young couriers, to transport drugs, making detection more challenging. In some instances, drugs are carried via rail routes in bags and later thrown at designated locations along railway tracks for pickup.
Authorities have intensified surveillance across the city, especially at key checkpoints, and further investigations are underway to identify and dismantle the wider network involved in the illegal drug trade.
