The Bengali New Year, Poila Boisakh, will be celebrated in the city with a special cultural programme jointly organised by the Bengali Association and the Bengali Education Society at Swaraswat Sabha Library Hall, Dhantoli, on Saturday, April 18.Although Poila Boisakh falls on April 15 this year, the celebration has been scheduled over the weekend to ensure wider participation from the community.Marking the first day of the Bengali month of Boisakh, the festival symbolises new beginnings, prosperity, and cultural pride.
Noted Kolkata-based singers Abhijit Acharya and Gopa Acharya will perform on the occasion. Known for their rich and expressive style, the duo will present a diverse musical repertoire, including Rabindra Sangeet, Bengali folk songs, and compositions by legendary Salil Chowdhury, whose birth centenary is being observed this year.
Pradip Maitra, Pradip Ganguly and Bidyut Chakraborty from the organising bodies have appealed to Bengalis and music lovers across the city to attend the programme in large numbers.
