In a shocking turn of events, eight survivors have been confirmed in the Amravati sexual abuse case. All of them are members of the Muslim community, according to police reports. The victims include one girl from Nagpur and two from Amravati city, while others hail from Akola, Achalpur, and nearby areas.
Police investigations revealed that Ayaan Ahmed, the key accused, first contacted one victim during the Urs of a Sufi saint. It’s unclear where they later met or where any alleged exploitation took place. This particular victim appears to be the only one who was befriended offline.
The case is under investigation following accusations of circulating obscene photos and videos on social media platforms like Telegram. Authorities believe some victims may have been minors, prompting additional POCSO charges. Initially, police took action after identifying that families were hesitant to come forward due to fears of social stigma.
During questioning, Ayaan named eight girls whose images he had stored on his phone, which helped investigators pinpoint their identities. Attempts to reach out through informants at first didn’t yield results; when families were approached for questioning about their daughters’ involvement, they denied any connection.
Additionally, police have sealed an Amravati flat belonging to co-accused Manav Sugande after discovering it had been rented out to Ayaan for ₹500—a location identified as a center for abuse activities.
Initial findings indicate serious allegations against two girls while the nature of claims involving others differs significantly. Investigators suspect Ayaan may have interacted with multiple victims over two or three years but estimate that the total number might not exceed twelve.
A dedicated team led by Achalpur’s sub-divisional police officer is now focused on ensuring a thorough probe within a clear timeline. They’re also taking steps to build trust among survivors as investigations progress.
