The registration process for MHT-CET 2026 has sparked concern among nearly two lakh students and parents, after Session 2 applications were closed before the completion of Session 1 exams.
For the first time, the entrance test for first-year engineering (B.Tech) admissions is being conducted in two phases—Session 1 and Session 2. While Session 1 exams began on April 11 and will continue until April 20, the registration window for Session 2 closed on April 16, right in the middle of the ongoing exams, causing confusion and inconvenience.
As per the rules, the best score from both sessions will be considered for admission through the Centralised Admission Process (CAP).However, most students prefer to evaluate their Session 1 performance before deciding whether to appear for Session 2. With registrations closing early, many were forced to decide without knowing their scores. The application fee for Session 2 was ₹1,300, leading several students to skip applying. Many feel that if registration had remained open until after Session 1 results, they could have made a more informed decision and avoided unnecessary expenses.
Students have termed the decision unfair and impractical, especially for those from rural and economically weaker backgrounds, for whom paying the fee without clarity on performance is challenging. Parents have also raised concerns over inadequate support from helplines, which has further added to the confusion.
