In response to soaring summer temperatures, the Nagpur City Traffic Police has revised traffic signal operations across the city. With mercury levels crossing 40°C, officials noted an increased risk of heat-related discomfort for commuters waiting at signals.
While traffic lights are functional at major intersections and are typically adjusted according to traffic flow, authorities observed significantly lower vehicle movement at certain junctions during afternoon hours. To address this, a special Arrangement has been introduced at 31 selected squares.
As per an official press note, these intersections will switch to “Red Blinker” mode ежедневно between 2 PM and 4 PM. Under this system, motorists are required to follow the “Stop, Look, and Proceed” rule instead of waiting through full signal cycles. The initiative aims to reduce waiting time, conserve fuel, and minimize exposure to extreme heat.
Additionally, a speed limit of 20 kmph will be strictly enforced at these junctions during the specified hours. The Traffic Police have urged citizens to adhere to the rules and cooperate to ensure safety and smooth vehicular movement.
