In a bid to enhance revenue and encourage timely payments, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has proposed a series of rebates on property tax. The proposal will be tabled for approval during the civic body meeting scheduled on April 22.
According to the plan, property owners can avail discounts ranging from 10% to 15% by paying their taxes early. Those who clear dues for the current financial year before July 31 will receive a 10% rebate. An additional 5% discount will be offered for payments made online, taking the total benefit up to 15%.
For taxpayers who miss the July deadline, a second window has been proposed. Payments made by December 31 at designated centers will qualify for a 5% rebate, while online payments during this period will attract a higher discount of up to 10%, promoting digital transactions. The administration has placed strong emphasis on online payment methods as part of its push for greater transparency and digital governance. The proposal also includes incentives for eco-friendly practices.
Households adopting measures such as rainwater harvesting, vermicomposting, solar energy, or wastewater recycling will be eligible for additional rebates. A 5% discount will be granted for implementing any one of these systems, while those adopting multiple measures can receive up to 10% extra.
Officials believe these combined incentives will not only improve tax collection but also encourage sustainable practices among residents.
