An LSD consignment worth Rs 1.7 lakh was seized on Friday in Nagpur, marking the city’s first-ever bust of the potent hallucinogen and signalling a troubling shift from MD to acid-based drugs.
Police recovered 17 LSD dots, each priced between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,800, concealed within perforated sticker sheets. Code-named “Million Tree,” the operation involved two computer engineering students from a reputed college and triggered a series of raids across the city. Sources indicated that LSD is fast emerging as a preferred substance, especially on elite campuses and at high-end rave parties.
Acting on a tip-off from constable Raj Choudhary, a joint team of MIDC police, crime branch, anti-narcotics unit, and Bharosa Cell intercepted the suspects near Jaitala. A woman officer acted as a decoy customer before senior officials moved in. While the main peddler managed to escape, the two students were caught inside their apartment during the raid.
Often referred to as a “last-stage drug,” LSD induces intense euphoria lasting 8–10 hours. An insider said users typically place the small sticker on the roof of the mouth for a rapid psychedelic effect. Reports suggest that several youths from areas like Jaripatka, Wardhaman Nagar, Khamla, Lakadganj, Civil Lines, and Byramji Town are grappling with addiction and withdrawal symptoms.
Police sources noted that until now, Nagpur primarily saw seizures of substances such as ganja, cocaine, charas, brown sugar, MD, and doda powder. “The emergence of LSD marks a concerning phase, as it gains traction among students and affluent groups drawn to its intense and ‘clean’ experience, making it increasingly popular at rave parties in farmhouses and luxury venues,” a senior officer said.
Police Commissioner Ravinder Singal stated that ‘Operation Thunder’ has now entered a more dynamic phase in the anti-drug crackdown. The strategy focuses on intelligence-led operations, tech-based surveillance, campus monitoring, youth awareness initiatives, and active community participation.
