Tension gripped Nagpur Central Jail after a group of inmates allegedly assaulted a prison staff member following a dispute inside the jail premises, raising serious questions over security and prison administration.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a scuffle broke out among inmates in the B-Division barracks. During efforts to control the situation, a prison employee, identified as Sandeep Kale (42), was allegedly attacked and injured by inmates.
He reportedly sustained injuries and was rushed for medical treatment.Reports said the clash erupted shortly after a routine inspection by jail authorities. The inmates allegedly turned aggressive and assaulted the staffer using objects available inside the barrack. The incident has triggered concern over repeated disturbances inside the prison and sparked questions over whether the deterrence of jail authorities has weakened.
Several undertrial prisoners have reportedly been booked in connection with the assault, while an internal inquiry has been initiated. The episode has once again brought the functioning and security management of the central jail under scrutiny.
