Central Railway has permitted BharatCabs to begin operations at Nagpur Railway Station from Friday. A designated pick-up and drop-off area has been set up at the station’s west gate. The move comes as a relief for commuters, as transport facilities at the station have long been a concern.
BharatCabs will deploy around 60 vehicles, significantly improving last-mile connectivity.Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Aman Mittal confirmed the development, noting that the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has clarified its stance on aggregator licences. He said the state government is currently drafting a policy for cab aggregators, and in the absence of a formal framework, licences cannot yet be issued.Mittal added that since no regulatory policy exists, BharatCabs’ operations cannot be considered illegal. Once the policy is finalised, all operators will need to comply with the new guidelines. For now, BharatCabs will function as a registered transport operator under the state government, similar to other app-based services, helping passengers travelling to and from Nagpur station.
However, issues persist on the eastern side near the Santra Market gate, where disputes between auto and cab operators continue to limit smooth access. Passengers are often forced to walk a few hundred metres to reach their rides. Authorities expect the situation to improve after the station redevelopment is completed.
Cab services within the station premises resume after nearly 18 months. Previously, drivers avoided entering the station due to conflicts with auto-rickshaw operators, forcing passengers to walk about 300 metres outside—often with heavy luggage and in harsh weather—to book rides.
