In a tragic incident reported under the jurisdiction of the Nandanvan Police Station, a mother and her daughter allegedly died by suicide by hanging themselves at their residence late at night. The deceased have been identified as Akanksha Barmhe, an engineer, and her mother Sangeeta Shriram Dhabale, a teacher.
According to preliminary information, Akanksha was pregnant and had recently suffered the loss of her unborn child. It is alleged that following this incident, harassment from her in-laws intensified, leading to severe mental distress. Unable to cope with the situation, both women reportedly took the extreme step by hanging themselves from an iron angle inside their house.
The incident has triggered shock and grief in the locality, with relatives alleging that harassment by the in-laws played a significant role in the deaths. Police from Nandanvan Police Station rushed to the spot upon receiving information, conducted a panchnama, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Officials have initiated an inquiry into the matter, and the in-laws of Akanksha are currently being questioned. A case of abetment to suicide is likely to be registered, while further investigation is underway.
