Under the “Mission Mukti – Phase 3” campaign aimed at making Nagpur a beggar-free city and preventing heatstroke cases during the ongoing summer season, a special rescue and rehabilitation drive was conducted on Thursday at Raja Baksha Mandir, Chhota Tajbagh and Motha Tajbagh areas.
The mission was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Ravindra Kumar Singal by a joint team comprising Nagpur Municipal Corporation-operated beggar rehabilitation shelters, Sahyadri Foundation, Divyavandana Aadhar Foundation, and personnel from Sakkardara Police Station and Imamwada Police Station.
During the operation, authorities rescued a total of 49 individuals, including 16 men, 19 women, and 16 children (boys and girls), and shifted them to various rehabilitation and medical facilities for care and support.
According to officials, six men were admitted to the NMC Astha Beggar Rehabilitation Shelter, while six women were shifted to the NMC Shanti Sadan Women’s Shelter Home. Nineteen children were sent to the Child Welfare Committee-run Government Children’s Homes at Katol Road for proper care and protection. Four individuals were rehabilitated through Divyavandana Aadhar Foundation, while 14 persons requiring medical attention were admitted to Government Medical Hospital for treatment.
Officials stated that the campaign aims not only to remove begging from public places but also to provide healthcare, shelter, counselling and long-term rehabilitation support to vulnerable individuals, especially during the extreme summer heat conditions in the city.
