A casual exchange between two employees at Toquo in Gokulpeth turned tragic after a knife allegedly thrown in jest pierced the neck of a 26-year-old cashier, leading to his death.
The incident took place under the Sitabuldi police station limits.The deceased has been identified as Avadhesh Kumar (26), a native of Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh, who worked as a cashier at the establishment. Police have taken the accused, Ayush Negi (24), a bartender from Uttarakhand, into custody.According to police, both employees had reported for duty on Thursday as usual. Around 5 pm, staff members, including Avadhesh and Ayush, were engaged in casual conversation when the banter reportedly turned into a verbal argument.
During the altercation, both allegedly began throwing knives kept on the counter at each other. Police said Ayush threw a folding knife used for cutting lemons towards Avadhesh. The knife reportedly opened mid-air and struck him below the neck, possibly near the windpipe.The incident created panic inside the bar.
Despite the serious injury, Avadhesh reportedly walked outside holding the knife lodged near his throat. Colleagues rushed him to Dande Hospital, from where he was shifted to Wockhardt Hospital. Doctors later declared him dead.
