The 8th edition of the Khasdar Krida Mahotsav (KKM) will commence from May 31, with this year’s event featuring significantly fewer disciplines compared to the previous edition. While 65 events were organised across the city last year, the upcoming edition will include competitions in only 18 disciplines.
Addressing a press conference, KKM Convenor Sandip Joshi said the decision to reduce the number of events was taken due to the intense summer heat prevailing in the region. “Due to peak summer and scorching heat, the organising committee decided to curtail this year’s events. Next year in January 2027, we will conduct all the events,” Joshi said.
The Mahotsav will begin with a Marathon on May 31, with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attending as the chief guest.
The week-long sports festival will feature competitions in wrestling (June 5), kho-kho (June 4-6), badminton (June 1-6), athletics (June 3-7), kabaddi (June 2-6), swimming (June 3-4), basketball (June 1-6), chess (June 4-6), carrom (June 3-4), bench press powerlifting (June 3-4), volleyball (June 1-4), yogasana (June 4-6), gymnastics (June 2-3), skating (June 6), handball (June 4-6), table tennis (June 2-4), and softball (June 5-6).
Joshi informed that all events, except the Marathon, will be conducted after 6 pm to avoid daytime heat. The Marathon will begin at 5.30 am. He also clarified that participation in this year’s competitions will be limited to players from Nagpur city.
The total prize pool for the event has been fixed at Rs 57.63 lakh.
The competitions will be conducted under the guidance of Sandip Joshi, Dr Piyush Ambulkar, Padmakar Charmode, Sachin Deshmukh, Ashfaque Sheikh, Dr Vivek Awasare, Dr Sambhaji Bhosle, Amit Sampat, Nagesh Sahare, Navneet Singh Tuli, Sachin Mathane, Vishal Lokhande, Sandesh Khare, Laxmikant Kirpane, Dhananjay Upasani, Satish Wade, Sunil Manekar, Dr Saurabh Mohod, Prakash Chandrayan and Neeraj Dontulwar.
