Three footballers from Nagpur have earned selection in the Maharashtra squad for the Swami Vivekananda Under-20 Men’s Football Championship, scheduled to be held in Narainpur, Chhattisgarh, from May 12.
Goalkeeper Amir Hamza of Ansar Club, along with defenders Pranav Nimbarte of Nobel SA and Mohammad Saad of Eleven Star, have been included in the 18-member Maharashtra squad for the tournament.
Nagpur’s AB Khan has been appointed as the team manager.
The players were shortlisted based on their performances in the Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter-District Under-20 Championship held at the Sinhagad Sports Complex in Lonavala. Five footballers from Nagpur — Amir Hamza, Pranav Nimbarte, Abdullah Siddiqui, Mohammad Saad and Mohammad Rizwan Ansari — were selected among the probables, out of which three secured places in the final state team.
The Maharashtra squad includes Abeel Mobbu, Agastya Patankar, Arush Wankhede, Atharva Desai, Bhumit Prabhu, Amir Hamza, Gaurang Mahajan, Harshil Shetty, Joy Koli, Mahammad Mustafa Faras, Mohammad Saad, Muneeb Nivshekar, Niranjan Gaikwad, Nirvaan Bhatt, Nishil Phadke, Pranav Nimbarte, Reagan Robert and Satyen Patil.
The team will be coached by Clinton D’Souza, while Yash Malpekar will serve as the physiotherapist.
