A major fraud case has come to light under the jurisdiction of Lakadganj Police Station, where employees of a reputed automobile showroom have been accused of cheating customers of more than Rs 52 lakh by promising vehicles at discounted rates and allegedly disappearing after collecting the money.
Police have registered a case and started an investigation into the alleged scam.
According to police, the fraud is linked to the Muscat Honda showroom on CA Road in Nagpur. Investigators said the accused employees allegedly lured customers by offering new vehicles at prices lower than market rates.
The accused reportedly claimed they could arrange vehicles through special dealership benefits and internal offers. Believing the assurances, complainant Rajdeep Rajendra Khobragade and several other customers transferred large sums online to the accounts of the accused.
Police said nearly Rs 52.91 lakh was collected from multiple victims.
However, after receiving the payments, the accused allegedly failed to deliver the vehicles and did not refund the money, leaving customers financially cheated.
Based on the complaint, Lakadganj Police registered offences under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against five accused — Shweta Chichghare, Avinash Kadu, Pranay Dhakate, Ghanshyam Chichghare and Chetan Gathibande.
Police officials said further investigations are underway to ascertain the full scale of the fraud and determine whether more customers were duped in the alleged racket.
