In a significant boost for railway passengers in Chandrapur district and the Vidarbha region, the Union Railway Ministry has approved a new train service between Ballarshah and Mumbai, addressing a demand that had remained pending for more than a decade.
The development introduces the first-ever direct rail connectivity between Ballarshah and Mumbai. The newly approved 20105/20106 Lokmanya Tilak Terminus–Ballarshah Express received clearance from Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw after sustained efforts by MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar. Vaishnaw communicated the approval to Mungantiwar through a letter dated May 10.
The new service is expected to greatly improve travel convenience for passengers from Chandrapur, Ballarpur, and nearby areas by providing direct access to Mumbai, an important centre for employment, education, healthcare, and business opportunities. Students travelling to Mumbai for higher studies are also likely to benefit from the affordable and hassle-free connectivity.
Highlighting Chandrapur’s expanding industrial presence, educational institutions, religious destinations, and tourism potential, Mungantiwar had repeatedly urged the Centre to strengthen rail connectivity in the region. His continuous follow-up efforts are believed to have played a key role in securing approval for the new train service.
