Nagpur is set to emerge as a major connectivity hub in eastern Maharashtra after the State Infrastructure Committee approved four major access-controlled high-speed expressway projects spanning nearly 547 km across Vidarbha. The projects, including the Nagpur–Gondia and Nagpur–Chandrapur expressways, received administrative clearance in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at Mantralaya in Mumbai on Thursday.
The ambitious corridors aim to strengthen fast transport connectivity between Maharashtra’s eastern and western regions while boosting industrial and economic growth in Vidarbha. The approved projects include the Nagpur–Gondia Expressway, Bhandara–Gadchiroli Expressway, Nagpur–Chandrapur Expressway, and the Navegaon More–Konsari to Surjagad Greenfield Road, collectively covering around 547 km.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, Public Works Minister Shivendrasinh Raje Bhosale, Industries Minister Uday Samant, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif, along with Chief Secretary Rajesh Agrawal and Additional Chief Secretary (PWD) Milind Mhaiskar.
The Nagpur–Gondia and Bhandara–Gadchiroli expressways will be developed as 3+3 lane corridors, while the Nagpur–Chandrapur and Navegaon More–Surjagad routes will feature 2+2 lanes. Officials said the Nagpur–Gondia corridor will improve connectivity across Nagpur, Bhandara and Gondia districts, while the Nagpur–Chandrapur expressway will enhance links across nine talukas in Nagpur and Chandrapur districts.
The total civil construction cost of the projects is estimated at Rs 32,478 crore, with overall expenditure expected to exceed Rs 51,906 crore. The projects will be implemented by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and are targeted for completion between September and December 2028.
Fadnavis has directed officials to speed up procedures and ensure timely completion. He also noted that the Navegaon More–Surjagad corridor will play a key role in mineral transport and should be integrated with the Samruddhi Mahamarg.
