Vidarbha looked more like a giant furnace on Monday as temperatures continued to soar across the region, leaving residents struggling under relentless summer heat. Wardha recorded the highest temperature at a blistering 46.5°C, while Amravati and Akola remained close behind at 46.4°C and 46.3°C respectively. Even Nagpur witnessed intense heat at 44.4°C, turning roads, markets, and public spaces unusually quiet during afternoon hours.
The heatwave showed no signs of slowing down, with Yavatmal touching 45.4°C and several other districts crossing the dangerous 43-degree mark. Chandrapur and Gondia both recorded 43.8°C, while Gadchiroli and Buldana settled at 43.6°C. Washim registered 44°C and Bhandara reported 42.6°C, making it clear that almost the entire Vidarbha belt remained trapped under severe summer conditions.
Across cities, the scorching weather disrupted normal routines as people rushed to complete outdoor work before noon. Tea stalls, bus stops, and market areas wore a tired look under the blazing sun, while cold drink shops and juice centres saw heavy crowds throughout the day. Hot winds sweeping through the region added to public discomfort, with many residents describing the weather as “unbearable” even after sunset.
Doctors and health officials have advised people not to take the heat lightly as prolonged exposure can lead to dehydration, exhaustion, and heatstroke. Citizens have been encouraged to drink plenty of water even if they do not feel thirsty, avoid stepping out between noon and 4 pm, and include electrolytes, coconut water, and seasonal fruits in their diet. Experts also suggested keeping a bowl of water for birds and ensuring that pets and stray animals remain hydrated, as extreme heat conditions are affecting both humans and animals across the region.
