An underground power cable was damaged during construction work at Ashoka Square on Monday afternoon, disrupting electricity supply to nearly 22,000 residents amid extreme heat conditions.
According to officials, workers employed by an NHAI contractor were carrying out road excavation work near Great Nag Road when they accidentally damaged the 33 KV Anandam feeder underground cable around 4.30 pm. The cable, connected to the 132 KV Besa Extra High Voltage line, snapped during digging operations.
The incident occurred while NHAI was undertaking flyover and cement road construction work at Ashoka Square. An excavator reportedly struck the underground cable, leading to an immediate power disruption in several areas of Central Nagpur.Electricity supply remained affected for nearly half an hour before repair teams from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) reached the site and carried out restoration work.
The damaged section of the cable was repaired on priority and power supply was restored soon after. However, residents faced considerable inconvenience in the scorching heat during the outage.The affected area falls under the Tulsibagh subdivision of Mahal Division in the Nagpur Urban Circle of MSEDCL.
