Vidarbha is locked in a brutal heatwave on Tuesday, where afternoons feel less like a season and more like a furnace on full blast. The region is witnessing a sharp surge in temperatures that are pushing everyday life to a standstill, with Amravati sizzling at a staggering 46.8°C, making it the hottest pocket of the belt. Close behind, Wardha scorched at 46.5°C and Akola baked at 46°C, as roads emptied out and sunlight turned unforgiving.
Nagpur, too, is trapped in this fiery spell, recording a searing 45.5°C, while Yavatmal and Chandrapur remained nearly equally scorched at 45.4°C and 45.2°C respectively. Even as you move deeper into the region, the heat refuses to loosen its grip Gadchiroli touched 44°C, Gondia 43.8°C, and Washim 43.5°C painting the entire Vidarbha belt in shades of extreme summer intensity.
Relief is barely visible even in comparatively “lower” readings, with Bhandara at 43°C and Buldana at 41.6°C still firmly in discomfort territory. The soaring temperatures are driving up electricity demand, water usage, and forcing most residents indoors as dry, hot winds amplify the severity of the spell.
Health experts are sounding a sharp warning: this is not ordinary summer heat. Citizens are urged to avoid stepping out between 12 pm and 4 pm, stay constantly hydrated, wear loose cotton clothing, and limit outdoor exposure. Vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and those with medical conditions remain at highest risk. Experts also suggested keeping a bowl of water for birds and ensuring that pets and stray animals remain hydrated, as extreme heat conditions are affecting both humans and animals across the region.
