Following its underwhelming performance in the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly elections and recent local body polls, the All India Congress Committee has announced a series of appointments for city and district presidents across the state in an effort to strengthen the party organisation and revive grassroots support.
Senior Congress leader Prafulla Gudadhe-Patil has been appointed as the new Nagpur city president, replacing Vikas Thakre, who had held the position for over a decade.
Gudadhe-Patil belongs to a rival faction within the city Congress unit, and his appointment is expected to alter the internal political dynamics of the party in Nagpur. The Thakre camp had maintained significant influence within the city unit for several years, leading to growing dissatisfaction among several senior leaders and party workers who felt sidelined.
As part of the wider organisational reshuffle in the Vidarbha region, the Congress leadership appointed Mahendra Gawai for Akola City, Prakash Tayade for Akola Rural, Nitiraj Shekhawat for Amravati City, Mukund Sakharkar for Bhandara, Shivarao Polisetti for Chandrapur City, Subhash Dhote for Chandrapur Rural, Vishwajit Kowase for Gadchiroli, Amar Warade for Gondia, Sunil Kolhe for Wardha, Vitthal Chaudhari for Washim, and Sachin Naik for Yavatmal.
