In a major move, Air India has decided to temporarily suspend its regular morning and evening flights on the Nagpur-Mumbai route from June 1 to July 31, citing a sharp rise in international aviation fuel prices. The impact of increasing fuel costs is now being strongly felt across the aviation sector, and the decision is expected to cause significant inconvenience to frequent travellers commuting between Nagpur and Mumbai.
The Nagpur-Mumbai corridor is regarded as one of Maharashtraās busiest domestic air routes. Businesspersons, industrialists, students, salaried employees, and patients travelling for medical treatment heavily rely on these services. The morning flight was especially important for passengers planning same-day work schedules in Mumbai, while the evening service was widely preferred by those returning to Nagpur after completing their work. With both flights being suspended simultaneously, travel difficulties for passengers are expected to increase considerably.
Following Air Indiaās decision, pressure on other airlines operating on the route is likely to rise sharply. Demand for seats is already high due to the ongoing holiday and tourism season, and the reduction in flight frequency could further push up airfares. Passengers making last-minute bookings may particularly face expensive ticket prices. Meanwhile, trade organisations and regular flyers have urged Air India to restore the services at the earliest, stressing that strong connectivity with Mumbai is crucial for Nagpurās growing commercial and industrial development. However, the airline has not yet announced when the suspended services will resume.
Flights to be suspended:
- Nagpur ā Mumbai ā 10:10 PM
- Nagpur ā Mumbai ā 7:50 AM
- Mumbai ā Nagpur ā 9:35 PM
- Mumbai ā Nagpur ā 7:20 AM
