Amid the intensifying heatwave conditions across Vidarbha and several parts of Maharashtra, the Maharashtra Government is closely monitoring the situation with a strong focus on students’ health and safety. Minister of State for School Education Pankaj Bhoyar on Thursday indicated that the government may consider postponing the reopening of schools if temperatures continue to remain high after June 15.
Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Bhoyar said the state government would review the ground situation before taking a final decision on reopening schools. He stated that the government is seriously considering extending the scheduled reopening date in order to protect students from extreme heat and heatwave conditions.
The minister further announced that Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has taken a major step to provide relief to students during the summer. From next year onwards, all university examinations will be conducted in the morning session instead of the afternoon to help students avoid exposure to severe daytime heat. He also said the number of examination centres would be increased to reduce overcrowding and improve convenience for students.
According to sources, the Maharashtra Government has revised the school reopening schedule. Schools across the state, which were earlier scheduled to reopen on June 15, are now expected to resume from June 26. Directions in this regard have reportedly been issued to the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The move is expected to provide significant relief to students and teachers amid the ongoing heatwave.
Meanwhile, the state government is also preparing to introduce stricter regulations for pre-primary schools and play-schools. Bhoyar said the Education Department has prepared a detailed draft legislation to make registration of all pre-primary schools, including kindergartens and play-schools, mandatory with the government.
The proposed law has now been sent to the Law and Judiciary Department for final approval. The government aims to introduce the proposed “Pre-Primary School Registration Act” in the upcoming Assembly session once it receives the necessary clearance.
Bhoyar said the government remains fully committed to safeguarding students’ interests and ensuring a secure and regulated educational environment.
