Nagpur continued to reel under intense heat on Sunday as the city recorded a maximum temperature of 45.4 degrees Celsius, which was 2.2 degrees above normal, amid severe heatwave conditions prevailing across Vidarbha.
According to weather data recorded on May 24, Brahmapuri remained the hottest place in the region at a scorching 47.2°C, followed by Chandrapur at 45.6°C and Wardha at 45.5°C. Gondia and Gadchiroli also witnessed extreme temperatures hovering around 45°C.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that heatwave to severe heatwave conditions were realized at many places in Vidarbha, with dry and harsh winds adding to public discomfort across Nagpur and surrounding districts.
The soaring mercury significantly impacted daily life in Nagpur, with roads and marketplaces wearing a deserted look during afternoon hours. Citizens were seen avoiding outdoor movement, while demand for electricity and water surged sharply due to continuous use of cooling appliances.Health experts have advised residents to remain hydrated, avoid direct exposure to sunlight during peak afternoon hours, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.
Weather officials have indicated that the heatwave conditions are likely to persist over Vidarbha for the next couple of days, with temperatures expected to remain above normal.
