There is no relief from the intense heat in Vidarbha this week, with maximum temperatures expected to stay above normal levels. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures across the region are likely to range between 43°C and 47°C.
The IMD has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Wardha, Amravati, Akola, and Brahmapuri due to the ongoing severe heatwave.A ‘Yellow Alert’ has also been issued for Nagpur, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli.
On Saturday, Brahmapuri recorded the highest temperature in Vidarbha at 47.1°C. It was followed by Chandrapur at 46.2°C, Gadchiroli at 46.0°C, Wardha at 45.5°C, Amravati at 45.4°C, Nagpur and Bhandara at 45.0°C each, Akola and Gondia at 44.9°C each, Yavatmal at 43.8°C, and Washim at 43.5°C.
The Weather Department has issued a ‘Red Alert’ for Wardha, Chandrapur, and Amravati on May 24 and 25. An ‘Orange Alert’ has also been announced for Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Akola, and Yavatmal from May 24 to 27.Hot winds throughout the day have made conditions even harsher, forcing many people to stay indoors.
Night temperatures have also remained unusually high. Wardha recorded the highest minimum temperature at 33.6°C, followed by Chandrapur at 32.6°C, Akola at 30.8°C, Gadchiroli and Nagpur at 30.4°C each, and Yavatmal at 30.0°C.
