Nagpur Municipal Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar has warned of strict action, including FIRs, against institutions and officials delaying or obstructing the ongoing census work in the city. The warning was issued during a review meeting held at the Commissioner’s Conference Hall on Monday.
Dr. Vipin stated that the census is a task of national importance and directed that schools, educational institutions and government departments must relieve employees assigned for census duties on time. He said show-cause notices and disciplinary action would also be initiated against responsible officials if negligence is found.
The civic administration has observed that some employees are attempting to cancel their census duties through recommendations instead of reporting for work. Taking serious note of the issue, the Commissioner clarified that no charge officer or Assistant Commissioner can cancel the duty of any enumerator or supervisor without prior approval from senior authorities.
Emphasising speedy execution, the Commissioner directed nodal officers and Assistant Commissioners to ensure 100 percent completion of census work within the next 10 days. He warned that any laxity or unauthorized cancellation of duties would invite strict action under rules.
