Thousands of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students across Vidarbha’s colleges are at risk of losing their scholarships this academic year due to unresolved technical errors on the MahaDBT portal — with colleges sitting on pending applications and students unable to access funds they are legally entitled to.
Under various central and state schemes including the Central Government Scholarship, State Tuition Fee Reimbursement, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Shishyavrutti, and vocational course stipends, SC/ST students apply online through MahaDBT. But widespread portal errors have left applications stuck — colleges across Vidarbha alone are staring at over 2,246 pending applications for 2025-26, following 490 in 2023-24 and 533 in 2024-25.
Students whose applications show errors must contact their college immediately, upload corrected documents, and ensure the college forwards the application to the Social Welfare office before the final deadline of May 31. If a college marks an application as rejected without resolving the error, it bears full responsibility. The Social Welfare Department’s assistant commissioner Maroti Vathe has warned colleges that unresolved applications will be treated as institutional negligence.
Students are advised to check their status on the MahaDBT portal and act immediately.
