In a major enforcement action against unauthorized medical practices, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Nagpur, has raided a skin, laser, and hair transplant clinic in Dhantoli and seized a stock of 25 types of allopathic medicines worth approximately Rs 7 lakh.
The action was initiated after the FDA received information that medicines were being dispensed at the clinic without the required drug sale license. During the inspection, officials found that the clinic did not possess a valid drug sale license. Investigators also discovered that medicines were allegedly being sold to patients using invoices issued in the name of another licensed establishment, raising serious concerns about the legality and transparency of the clinic’s operations.
The raid was conducted on June 3 under the guidance of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and senior officials of the Nagpur division. The special inspection team included assistant commissioners, drug inspectors, and officers from the intelligence wing.
During the search, officials recovered a large quantity of allopathic medicines, including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, medicated shampoos, and medicines used for alopecia treatment. When asked to produce purchase bills and related records, the clinic management reportedly failed to provide the necessary documents.
FDA officials seized medicines valued at around Rs 7 lakh and collected samples of four medicines for laboratory testing and analysis. The test results are expected to provide further information regarding the quality, authenticity, and legal compliance of the drugs.
Authorities stated that the most serious irregularity found during the inspection was the alleged use of another license holder’s credentials for issuing medicine sale invoices despite the clinic not having a valid license of its own.
Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the ongoing investigation and laboratory reports.
