Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has once again come under scrutiny over examination-related lapses after it was forced to cancel a B.Com Semester IV examination due to the distribution of an incorrect question paper, affecting more than 900 students.
The examination for Fundamentals of Insurance, scheduled on Wednesday, had to be called off after students discovered that the question paper contained questions from Fundamentals of Banking instead of the prescribed Insurance syllabus.Students at various examination centres immediately alerted officials, who then informed RTMNU’s Board of Examination and Evaluation.
After verifying the complaint, the university decided to cancel the examination.Confirming the development, Director of the Board of Examination and Evaluation, Dr. Motiram Tadas, said the examination was cancelled following students’ complaints and demands. He stated that more than 900 students were affected by the error and that all examination centres were promptly informed about the cancellation.
“The examination has been rescheduled and will now be held on June 10,” Dr. Tadas said. The incident has once again raised concerns about RTMNU’s examination and result management system, which has faced several controversies and administrative errors in recent years. In a related development, the university has directed faculty members, Boards of Studies and Deans to urgently prepare and submit model answer keys for various Summer 2026 examinations.
RTMNU issued a communication on Wednesday morning, convening an online meeting at 4 pm and seeking immediate submission of answer keys to the heads of valuation centres. Some faculty members expressed concern over the short notice, warning that the hurried process could increase the risk of errors and further administrative lapses.
The latest incident has sparked fresh questions about the university’s examination preparedness and quality control mechanisms at a time when thousands of students are appearing for semester examinations.
