The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) and Orange City Water (OCW), with support from Nagpur Police, have seized 206 illegal Tullu pumps during a special enforcement drive conducted across the city over the past 20 days.
Authorities said the use of Tullu pumps has increased during the summer due to rising water demand and growing dependence on municipal water supply. Many residents have been found illegally connecting the pumps directly to civic water pipelines to draw water at higher pressure.
According to NMC-OCW, the use of Tullu pumps is illegal and adversely affects water distribution. Officials said a single pump can reduce water pressure for at least ten neighbouring households, leading to inadequate supply and low pressure in surrounding areas.
The action was carried out between May 13 and June 8 in several localities across the city. Areas where pumps were seized include Nandanvan, Adarsh Nagar, Prem Nagar, Pandey Vasti, Sangharsh Nagar, Manav Nagar, Khushi Nagar, Chintamani Nagar, Metro City Society, Surendragadh, Pachpaoli, Kalamna, Vinoba Bhave Nagar, Kamgar Nagar and other localities.
NMC and OCW have appealed to citizens not to use illegal Tullu pumps and to cooperate in ensuring equitable water distribution. Residents have also been urged to report unauthorized pump usage to the civic authorities.
For water supply-related complaints, billing issues or other services, citizens can contact the NMC-OCW helpline at 1800 266 9899 or use the Nagpur Jal Grahak Sewa App.
