Using robots in key sections in explosives manufacturing companies has been proposed under the Explosives Act 2008. The suggestion was made by a committee constituted after explosion in SBL Energy Limited in Raulgaon, In Nagpur district on March 1, killing 15 workers on the site which increased to 25 during treatment.
Several lives were lost due to explosions in Nagpur region during the last two and a half years. Reducing human involvement in dangerous operations and replacing them with robots have been suggested. The suggestions by the committee were presented to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday. Fadnavis said that the suggestions made by the committee will be forwarded to the Central Government for approval.
Experts from explosives manufacturers and National Institute of Fire Services were the members of the committee. The committee suggested automation in manufacturing, use of robots and reduced involvement of human beings in sensitive sections. They also suggested strictly following the security measures suggested by the authorities.
In Nagpur district five blasts were reported which took the lives of 41 workers of which 31 were women. Besides deaths, 38 workers were seriously injured.
