The ongoing rise in fuel and raw material costs is set to hit Nagpur residents on multiple fronts, with city restaurants signalling a fresh 10% increase in food prices, salons already implementing a 20% rate revision from June 6, and protein supplement prices surging by 30 to 40 per cent.
Nagpur Eatery Owners Association joint secretary Mandeepsingh Padam said commercial gas cylinder prices had risen by 70 per cent since the US-Iran conflict began, pushing the cost of a 45.7-kg cylinder from ₹4,200 to ₹7,072. Combined with rising prices of pulses, rice, wheat, spices, onion, and edible oil, the burden had become unsustainable for restaurant operators, he said.
The Maharashtra Nabhik Mahamandal has revised salon rates across urban and rural areas with effect from June 6. A haircut now costs ₹220 (up from ₹180), a shave ₹140 (up from ₹120), and hair colour ₹240 (up from ₹200). District president Rajendra Phulkandhe attributed the hike to rising costs of petrochemical-based salon products, rent, electricity, and staff wages.
Gym-goers face a separate squeeze, with whey protein tins that previously cost ₹3,000–₹4,000 now priced between ₹4,500 and ₹5,200, driven by global raw material costs, import freight charges, and rupee depreciation, according to the report. Trainers warned against switching to cheaper unverified supplements.
