Airfares on the Nagpur–Doha route have witnessed a sharp surge ahead of the FIFA World Cup, with ticket prices rising nearly two-and-a-half times their usual rates. The increase is being attributed to growing travel demand from football fans heading to the tournament and a rise in international passenger traffic.
According to travel industry sources, a significant number of travelers from Nagpur and Central India are planning trips to the United States, Canada, and Mexico, where FIFA World Cup matches will be held. Since Doha serves as a major international transit hub, many passengers are opting to travel via Qatar, resulting in heavy demand for flights on the Nagpur–Doha sector.
Qatar Airways’ direct Nagpur–Doha service, which is widely used by passengers connecting to North America, has seen a substantial increase in bookings. Travel agents report that demand for June and July departures has surged, pushing fares significantly higher.At present, economy class fares from Nagpur to Doha, which were around ₹21,000–₹25,000 during the previous week, have risen to between ₹55,000 and ₹63,700 for travel in July. Business class fares, which typically hover around ₹1 lakh, have climbed to nearly ₹1.25 lakh.Travel experts say Doha has become a preferred transit point for passengers travelling to North America due to its extensive global connectivity. Many travelers who would normally book closer to their departure dates are now making reservations months in advance to avoid further fare increases.Industry observers also point to a broader recovery in international tourism and strong demand during the summer travel season.
The combination of major sporting events and increased overseas travel has led to limited seat availability and higher airfare levels on several international routes, particularly through key hubs such as Doha.
With bookings continuing to rise, travel agents expect elevated fares to persist through the coming weeks, especially on routes connecting India with North America and other long-haul destinations.
