After remaining shut for nearly two months due to ongoing remodelling work, Platform No. 2 at Nagpur Railway Station was reopened for train operations on Tuesday. The Amla-Nagpur Passenger became the first train to arrive at the platform following completion of preliminary construction work, including erection of pillars and related infrastructure.
The platform had been closed since April 8 as part of the station redevelopment project being executed by the Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA). A major concourse is being constructed above the railway tracks as part of the upgrade. With the reopening of the platform, the Nagpur Division has decided to operate the recently regularised tri-weekly Nagpur-Madgaon Express from Platform No. 2.
During the closure, trains that usually used the platform were shifted to other platforms and, in some cases, diverted to Ajni station. Several trains on the busy Grand Trunk route, particularly those travelling between New Delhi and southern destinations, were affected by the arrangement. While the block was originally planned for 52 days, it was extended by eight additional days to facilitate the work.
In a coordinated move, the Nagpur Division of South East Central Railway (SECR) had also undertaken infrastructure work at Gondia station, where Platform No. 4 was kept closed for train operations during the same period.
