The work stoppage agitation launched by contract workers employed under the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) continued for the third consecutive day on Saturday over pending financial dues and salary-related issues.
The protesting workers alleged that payments towards their earned leave (EL) and casual leave (CL) encashment have remained unpaid for the last three months. They further claimed that salaries for the previous month have not yet been credited to their bank accounts, causing significant hardship.
According to the employees, a meeting was recently held with officials of the concerned contracting company to resolve the issue. However, no concrete decision emerged from the discussions, leading to growing dissatisfaction among the workforce. As a result, the workers began their strike on June 11, 2026.
On the third day of the agitation, the employees alleged that neither the municipal administration nor the contracting company had taken any positive steps toward resolving their grievances.
They also expressed disappointment over what they described as the administration’s indifferent attitude towards the issue.
The workers stated that delays in salary payments have created severe financial difficulties for their families. Managing daily household expenses, children’s education costs, and other financial commitments has become increasingly challenging due to the non-payment of wages and leave encashment benefits.
The protesters have demanded immediate clearance of all pending salaries and leave dues. They warned that the strike will continue until their outstanding payments are released and their demands are addressed.
The agitation is being led by Powerfund Workers Union President Gaurav Meshram, Secretary Ritesh Tangde, Joint Secretary Ketan Lanjewar, and member Sunny Chandrikapure, along with other union members.
