A police team that visited the residence of a Maulana in Tamia, Chhindwara district of Madhya Pradesh, returned empty-handed as the third accused in the alleged rape and religious conversion case involving the wife of an Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel continues to evade arrest.
According to police sources, the victim had led investigators to the Maulana’s residence, where she allegedly underwent religious conversion.
Earlier, Sonegaon police arrested two accused — Ayyaz Taj Madar (26), a resident of Kalmeshwar, and Amin Sheikh (30) — in connection with the case. Their police custody is scheduled to end on June 17, and investigators are expected to seek an extension of their remand from the court.
Sources said that some associates of the absconding Maulana have contacted the police and indicated that he may surrender soon. Officials expressed confidence that he could be taken into custody within the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, the woman who allegedly recorded a video related to the case, which later went viral on social media, was summoned by Sonegaon police for questioning. As she failed to appear, officers are now planning to visit her residence to record her statement.
Further investigation is underway.
