In a significant operation under the ongoing “Operation Shakti” campaign, the Nagpur Crime Branch busted an alleged prostitution racket running from a luxury spa in the Bajaj Nagar area and rescued four women. One person has been arrested, while police are searching for two other accused believed to be involved in the operation.
The raid was conducted on Sunday evening after Crime Branch Unit-1 received specific information about suspected illegal activities at May-Fair Luxury Spa in Prayag Enclave near Bajaj Nagar Square. Acting swiftly on the intelligence input, a police team carried out a surprise inspection of the premises at around 5.25 pm.
According to investigators, the spa was allegedly being used as a cover for commercial sexual exploitation. During the operation, police detained Aman Namdeorao Vaidya (28), a resident of Byramji Town in Sadar, who is accused of facilitating the illegal activities by arranging customers and providing space for the operation.
Four women found at the premises were rescued and moved to a secure location. Police said their statements would form an important part of the investigation. The raiding team seized Rs 4,800 in cash, three mobile phones and other articles suspected to have been used in the alleged racket. The total value of the seized items has been estimated at Rs 84,830.
Investigators have also identified two alleged associates, Sushilkumar Lohariwal and Kamalkumar Gosavi, both residents of Rourkela in Odisha. The duo is currently on the run, and police teams have been deployed to trace their whereabouts. Following the raid, Bajaj Nagar Police registered an offence under Section 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
Police said the operation was part of a larger drive initiated by Police Commissioner Dr Ravinder Kumar Singal to identify and dismantle human trafficking and sexual exploitation networks operating in Nagpur. The raid was carried out under the supervision of senior officers, including Joint Commissioner of Police Navinchandra Reddy, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajendra Dabhade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Deepak Agrawal and Assistant Commissioner of Police Abhijit Patil.
Crime Branch Unit-1, led by Police Inspector Prashant Thaware, executed the operation. Officials said further investigations are underway to determine whether the accused were linked to a wider interstate trafficking network and to identify any additional individuals connected to the alleged racket.
