To address key civic issues such as illegal constructions, encroachments and choked sewer lines, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) held review meetings at the Laxmi Nagar and Dharampeth zone offices on Monday. The meetings were coordinated by Standing Committee Chairperson Shivani Dani-Wakhre and Municipal Commissioner Dr. Vipin Itankar, and attended by local corporators and municipal officials.
Taking a firm stance against environmental violations, Dr. Itankar directed officials to register police FIRs against habitual encroachers and individuals found dumping garbage into nullahs. He also ordered the immediate seizure of materials from illegal meat markets and other unauthorised establishments operating on encroached land.To improve sewer maintenance, the NMC will procure 10 new sewer-cleaning machines, ensuring that each zone is equipped with at least one machine. Dr. Itankar also announced that all zone offices will observe a dedicated ‘Citizen Grievance Redressal Day’ on the second and fourth Fridays of every month to address public complaints more effectively.During the meeting, Laxmi Nagar Zone Chairperson Lakshmi Yadav expressed concern over garbage being dumped along cleaned nullahs and called for strict penalties against violators.
She also stressed the need for sincere implementation of the ‘Mission 100 Days’ initiative. Corporators raised several civic concerns, including irregular waste collection, non-functional park lighting, the stray dog menace and potholes caused by ongoing Amrut-2 pipeline works.
At the Dharampeth Zone meeting, Zone Chairperson Deshpande highlighted the shortage of sanitation workers and raised concerns over polluted water from MIDC areas flowing into Ambazari Lake. In response, Dr. Itankar instructed officials to intensify the deployment of NDS squads at identified garbage black spots across the city.
