A teacher at a madarsa in Nagpur’s Tajbagh area has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly sexually abusing 10 minor boys. The accused, identified as Atay Rasul alias Talif (26), is absconding and police have launched a search to trace him.
The case came to light after a 16-year-old student from Madhya Pradesh allegedly informed the madarsa management about the abuse. Based on the complaint, Sakkardara Police registered an FIR against the accused under relevant sections of the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police sources, the teenager was staying at the madarsa in Gausia Colony, Tohit Nagar, to study Arabic and Urdu. The accused allegedly entered the boys’ dormitory during the early hours of June 18 and sexually assaulted the student while he was asleep. The victim further alleged that he was threatened when he resisted.
During the investigation, police received information suggesting that several other students may have been subjected to similar abuse. Preliminary inquiries indicate that as many as 10 minor boys were allegedly targeted by the accused in a similar manner.
Police said the accused fled the premises after learning that a complaint was likely to be filed against him. Further investigation is underway.
