In a shocking incident reported under the Mankapur Police Station limits, a delivery executive was allegedly abducted by a group of five men after he offered a lift to a stranger.
The accused reportedly threatened the victim, extorted money, and later forced him to withdraw cash from an ATM before releasing him.
According to police, the complainant, identified as Ranger John Jones, works as a delivery agent for an online marketing company. Two days ago, while returning home on his motorcycle after completing deliveries, he was approached by an unknown youth near Mankapur Chowk who requested a lift. Trusting the stranger, Jones agreed.
After traveling some distance, the youth allegedly called four accomplices, who intercepted the vehicle and forcibly took control of the victim.
Investigators said the accused then moved the victim to different locations across the city and allegedly threatened to implicate him in a false criminal case if he failed to comply with their demands.
Under pressure, the victim contacted a friend for financial assistance. Subsequently, ₹90,000 was transferred to the bank account of the friend’s sister. The accused allegedly took Jones to an ATM, where two of them withdrew the amount while the others kept watch.
Police said the victim was later abandoned near Tideke College after being warned not to approach law enforcement authorities. Before fleeing, the accused allegedly damaged his mobile phone in an apparent attempt to destroy evidence.
Initially shaken by the incident, the victim did not immediately approach the police. However, he later gathered courage and lodged a complaint. Based on his statement, Mankapur Police have registered a case against unidentified persons and launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the accused.
