A faction dispute within the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti, which manages Dikshabhumi, has intensified, with followers holding a Mukt Parishad (open assembly) at Rajbhavan on June 27 demanding that the committee be brought under broader community control.The dispute centres on allegations from one faction that attempts are being made to remove samiti chairman Dr Rajendra Gavai and president Suresh Sansai.
A police complaint has been filed in connection with the matter. The Mukt Parishad was organised to voice concerns that the samiti’s functioning has drifted away from community oversight and that development of Dikshabhumi has not progressed as expected.At the assembly, speakers Ranadhir Rangari Mhapalhe and Rahul More Mhapalhe demanded accountability in Dikshabhumi’s development and called on the government to intervene democratically rather than allow a single faction to control the samiti.
Ramesh Yankhedhe and Nitin Ganjbhiye demanded that the samiti’s constitution be amended to allow all common followers the right to participate. Nagsen Patil and Kiran Gourkhede also addressed the gathering.
