Five members of a family from Chandrapur were killed after their car rammed into a stationary container truck on the Samruddhi Expressway near Dhamangaon Railway in Amravati district on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Bhaskar Mahadev Jivne (65), Mahadev Jivaji Jivne (43), Lata Mahadev Jivne (60), Aarti Bhaskar Jivne (41) and Jignya Bhaskar Jivne (12). The family was travelling from Chandrapur to Akola to attend a family function when the accident occurred around 12.15 pm.
According to police, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the rear of the parked container truck. The impact crushed the front portion of the car, killing all five occupants on the spot.
Police and rescue teams rushed to the spot, and the bodies were shifted to the Rural Hospital at Dhamangaon Railway for postmortem. An investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, including whether speeding or driver fatigue played a role.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Chandrapur and once again raised concerns over road safety on the Samruddhi Expressway.
