Rupal Shirpurkar, a Nagpur native and globally recognised cloud and artificial intelligence (AI) leader, has been appointed as the first woman president of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC), USA Maharashtra Chapter, marking a historic milestone for both the organisation and the Maharashtrian diaspora.
Recognised among the Top 12 Women in Cloud globally, Shirpurkar’s appointment reflects the IOC’s commitment to inclusive leadership, democratic values and stronger engagement with overseas Indians across the United States and beyond.
Born and brought up in Nagpur, Shirpurkar has built an illustrious global career while remaining deeply connected to her Maharashtrian roots. A computer science engineering graduate from Nagpur University, she also holds a leadership specialisation from Harvard Business School.
The IOC said her appointment represents the growing role of women in leadership and brings to the organisation a leader with strong cultural ties to Maharashtra and extensive international experience. It added that her background and global perspective would help strengthen the chapter’s outreach and engagement with the Maharashtrian community living overseas.
