Relentless monsoon rains continued to batter Mumbai on Sunday, claiming another life and disrupting normal life across the city as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) maintained a Red Alert, warning of extremely heavy rainfall over the next several hours.

A 63-year-old man, identified as Yunus Hakimuddin Sheikh, was killed in Kurla West after a rain-weakened tree collapsed on him while he was preparing to open his newly purchased shop. CCTV footage captured the incident, which also damaged parked vehicles.
The latest death marks the third rain-related fatality reported in Mumbai in recent weeks, intensifying concerns over public safety during the ongoing monsoon.

Heavy rainfall has triggered widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion and disruptions to road, rail and air services across Mumbai. Several low-lying areas remain inundated, while authorities have urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and remain indoors unless essential. The city has received nearly 250-300 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, with some areas recording over 300 mm.
The IMD has continued its Red Alert for Mumbai and adjoining districts, forecasting extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. A high tide of around 4.19 metres is also expected, raising the risk of flooding in low-lying areas. Civic authorities and disaster response teams remain on high alert as emergency services continue to monitor the evolving situation.
