Ajni Police have arrested a woman for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth around Rs 12.75 lakh from a jewellery shop in Nagpur. Police said the accused had recently been released from jail after being arrested by Nandanvan Police in a similar theft case.
According to police, Sahil Dumbare, proprietor of Sahil Jewellers at Kashi Nagar on Rameshwari Main Road, discovered that several gold ornaments were missing during a stock verification at his shop.
Suspecting theft, he checked the shop’s CCTV footage, which allegedly showed a woman customer, identified as Monali Pramod Kawadkar, visiting the shop multiple times between May 23 and June 18, 2026, on the pretext of placing orders for customised gold jewellery.
Police said that during these visits, the accused allegedly took advantage of moments when the shop owner’s father and female staff members were distracted and stole gold ornaments on different occasions. The stolen jewellery, weighing about 187 grams, is valued at approximately Rs 12.75 lakh. Based on the complaint, Ajni Police registered a case of theft and arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway.
Police also said that Kawadkar had recently been arrested by Nandanvan Police in another jewellery theft case. Investigators suspect that she allegedly committed the present offence soon after being released from jail.
