A public hearing on two proposed tree felling projects by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) was held on Wednesday for Advertisement No. 65PR (London Orange Street) and Advertisement No. 116PR (Sonegaon Aamrai Sewer Pipeline Project). According to citizens’ groups, more than 200 objections were submitted against the proposals, making it one of the highest levels of public participation in recent tree felling cases.

The hearing, which had earlier been postponed following court directions, witnessed participation from residents, environmental activists, and petitioners. Citizens alleged that they were informed about the hearing at short notice and claimed that several project-related documents directed to be shared by the court were not made available before the proceedings. The hearing also reportedly began later than the scheduled time.
During the proceedings, several participants questioned the absence of representatives from the project proponents, stating that key technical and environmental queries remained unanswered. Some citizens also alleged that the hearing was conducted without full compliance with the court’s directions and certain provisions of the Maharashtra tree protection law.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has not yet issued an official response to the allegations raised during the hearing. Citizens have demanded that the objections be examined in detail and have urged the civic body to ensure complete legal compliance and transparency before taking any decision on the proposed tree felling.
