Seventeen-year-old Hiten Dharpure, a Class 12 student of School of Scholars, Atrey Layout, Nagpur, has earned a place in the Guinness World Records by creating the world’s smallest fully functional robotic arm.
Measuring just 39.25 mm, the robotic arm breaks the previous record of 44.49 mm held by Kelton Sera of Indiana, USA, bringing the title to India. Hiten designed, coded and built the device in his home workshop after nearly two months of research, testing and refinement.
The miniature robotic arm features a custom 3D-printed body, Arduino microcontrollers and micro-servos. Despite its tiny size, it offers independent three-axis movement and can accurately grip and move small objects, similar to large industrial robotic arms.
This is Hiten’s fourth major achievement. In 2023, he entered the India Book of Records for earning 801 certificates. In 2024, he was recognised by the Worldwide Book of Records for a synchronised robot dance performance. In 2025, he set another Guinness World Record by developing the world’s smallest weather station and also received a registered copyright for its software.Hiten said his parents have been his biggest support throughout his journey.
He was recently honoured by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who praised his innovation and encouraged him to continue his work.
Hiten now aims to set a new world record every year while contributing to the Make in India and Viksit Bharat initiatives and hopes to represent India on the global STEM stage.
